50% LIS Professor, 25% Librarian, 25% Information Policy Formulator
Tell us something about yourself:
There is just so little to discuss. I am working on a thesis to complete my program. My thesis will discuss the effects of CIPA on information access in Oklahoma public libraries. Other than that I am looking into PhD programs that offer courses or concentrations in Information Policy and/or ICT Policy
Any other degrees?
B.S. Computer Information Systems, Eastern Illinois University; M.S. Management Information Systems, University of Illinois-Springfield
Why did you choose library science?
My interest in information access began with my first communications hardware course at Eastern Illinois. In this course I began to understand how hardware and networks operate. There were also discussions on ethical issues of networks and information use. Those discussions on information ethics got me interesting in information systems. I was also working in a local community college library during this period.
At this point in time I thought working as a CIO in a large company would be the best job in the world. I enrolled in the MIS program at the University of Illinois. In this program I was exposed again to communications hardware and ethical issues abounded in many classes.
I then decided that I needed to know more about information uses and policy. At the same time, I was getting tired of my job as an IT director and remembered how I really enjoyed working in the community college library. So I found a LIS program that was very cost effective, I have to watch my loan amounts, and did not concentrate completely on research or technical training. (Technical training as in only teaching how to do a job)
