Library 210: Reference Services / Professor Renee Jefferson
Dream Job:
Reference Librarian at an extremely busy public library in a Hispanic Community (to put my bilingual skills to use and hopefully establish mentoring programs and be an example for at least ONE person).
Tell us something about yourself:
This should give you a good idea of who I am and what I believe:
#1: Service -- no matter what, I gotta have a career based on service to the world at large.
#2: Libraries are a gateway to everything and ANYTHING! This compliments my studies in Philosophy -- a discipline which applies to everything and ANYTHING!
#3: Experience -- before earning my bachelor's, i already had a wealth of experience working at many public libraries (for L.A. County). I loved everyday and saw the ENORMOUS demand for minority librarians.
Not only was library science a natural calling to me, but I also see it as a responsibility to get into the field considering my "people" personality, academic qualifications, library work experience AND my "minority" identity.
